For HDB flats, you can't hack structural walls or the main door frame without approval, and the lift lobby is common property. The cabinet must stay fully within your flat's boundary. A good installer knows the line and won't cross it.

Condo owners face stricter MCST rules. Many management bodies want written permission before any fixture near the corridor, and some ban changes to the landing look. Check your by-laws before you commit, or you may be told to remove it.

Keeping it working and what buyers think

Wipe the slot weekly and test the combo every few months. If the catch sticks, a little silicone spray fixes it. Maintenance is light and you won't think about it much.

On resale, a tidy built-in by the door reads as "well thought out" rather than a gimmick. It won't add a huge dollar figure, but it helps a viewing feel organised, and buyers in 2025 and 2026 are looking for practical storage over showy fittings.
