Custom Furniture for ceiling: Slim Pieces for Narrow Rooms
Custom Furniture that reaches the ceiling solves a narrow room by adding slim, full-height storage that uses wall space you would otherwise waste.
Narrow rooms are common in Singapore flats, from a 4-room BTO's 2.6-metre ceilings to compact condo studies. The floor is thin, but the wall is tall. Slim cabinets that run floor to ceiling turn that height into drawers, shelves, and hidden boxes. The trick is keeping each piece shallow so the room still feels open. Here is how to do it.
Measure the room before you dream
Ceiling heights here are usually 2.6 to 2.8 metres. A slim run of 30 to 40cm depth gives you storage without eating the walkway in a narrow room.
Check for a false ceiling or bulkhead first. Condo studies often hide air-con ducts up there, and you don't want to build into them.

Mark door swing and light switches. A full-height piece must not block a switch or trap you behind a door.
Custom Furniture shapes that suit a slim room
A 35cm-deep wardrobe with sliding fronts beats hinged doors that need swing space you don't have. Soft-close tracks keep it quiet.
Split the height: low drawers you use daily, mid shelves for display, top boxes for once-a-year stuff. A step stool reaches the top.
Use one continuous front with no handle breaks. A clean laminate face makes a narrow room read taller and calmer than busy open shelves.
For a study, a slim desk that folds from the same run keeps the floor clear. Build the cable tray behind the back panel so wires hide.
Materials, cost and lead time
Slim full-height storage runs roughly S$1,800 to S$4,500, depending on width and how the inside is divided. Sliding fronts add to the bill.
Plywood with laminate is the steady choice: straight, stable, and cheaper than solid wood. MDF is fine for painted fronts in dry rooms but swells near baths.
From measure to install, plan about 6 to 10 weeks. Build all narrow-room pieces together so the laminate matches across the wall.
HDB and condo limits
HDB lets you fix full-height cabinets to partitions, not structural walls, and you must keep a clear exit path. Don't seal a window or the bomb shelter door.
Condo MCST rules may limit fixed fittings that change the look from shared areas. An internal narrow room is yours; just avoid the wall facing the corridor.
The 1-year defect liability period covers wall cracks from the build. If your new cabinet reveals one, flag it while the builder is still liable.
Care and resale
Wipe laminate with a damp cloth and check wall fixings yearly. Tighten any screw that has worked loose in our humid air.
Full-height slim storage helps resale because it shows the flat holds more than it looks. Buyers in small Singapore homes value that quiet extra capacity.
If a room feels too tight, look up. Slim cabinets to the ceiling borrow space you already own. Keep them shallow, split the height by use, and match the finish. It is the easiest way to make a narrow room breathe.
