Materials for a damp corner

A shoe spot sees water, so plywood with a laminate skin beats MDF, which swells at the edges. The tray should be stainless or moulded plastic, never solid wood. Laminate fronts wipe fast and will not stain from a muddy sole. Solid wood is wrong here; it marks and holds damp.

Vent the upper section with a louvred panel so the pair dries in our humidity instead of going sour by noon.

Condo MCSTs may restrict plumbing works and set renovation hours, so clear the plan with the manager before the carpenter starts.

Upkeep and resale thinking

Empty and wipe the tray after each wet use, and check the vent at the one-year mark under the defect liability period. A loose face is a free fix early. Keep the laminate dry at the edges so it does not lift.
